Anuri is a Nigerian born contemporary visual artist. Known for her portraiture and narrative painting styles, Anuri uses social media as a tool to share her artistic process with the world.

Anuri was raised in Port Harcourt, Nigeria and began exploring all forms of art at a young age. Primarily drawing inspiration from abstract expressionism, surrealism and pop-culture movements, she began by adapting the works of greats such as CJ Hendry, Kehinde Wiley, Tracie Ching and Felipe Pantone. However, when in University, Anuri’s artistic journey was temporarily diverted as she studied and subsequently worked as an Architecture graduate and Interior designer for many years. It was not until the 2023 that her passion for creating art was reignited. Using oil and acrylic paint. Anuri slowly developed a technique of using vibrant colours and large canvases to portray people and emotions through portraiture and narrative storytelling in her paintings.

Being naturally observant, Anuri gathers her inspiration from her own world in Nigeria. Whether it be through children playing, mothers making their daughters hair or traders at work, she sees the world as a scene from a movie and invites outside viewers to also reflect and imagine themselves as characters in the scenes.

Anuri's oil and acrylic paintings stem from a lifelong fascination with people and how they behave in different settings in everyday life. Anuri's paintings start from a very small story or idea or feeling that she wants to capture. From there,she creates a scene where everything serves a purpose in telling the story from sketch to composition and staging. Everything is photographed and she arrives at the image she needs for the painting. She approaches paintings the way a director would. Initially, she painted single character portraits that tried to portray a story or a feeling. While those paintings were good, she found that they didn't quite capture the stories that she wanted to tell the world.
